SEA- my last two days here in 2018

I have already seen so much of Seattle and there are some spots, like the Pike Place, which I crossed at least once a day. Still, there is so much more to see!
On the 18th of December, I spoiled myself (and especially my feet) with a longer break, stayed in the Hostel and skyped with a friend of mine from my home country for more than two hours!! We had a lot to share and time just passed by…I packed my suitcase, because I had to check out on the next day and made my way to the bus station, where I took a bus to the Safeco Field. No, I did not see a Baseball Game from the Mariners (btw. Safeco Field will be renamed!!), but I met two friends from College and together we went to the Exhibition called “Enchant“, IMG_20181218_160105639which we had to enter between 4pm and 5pm (that’s the way they manage the amount of visitors). In the stadium they built up a huge light maze, with the quest to find Santa’s 9 lost reindeers: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph.

It took us some time, but we managed to find every reindeer. Next to the light maze, one could rent ice skates and set the inner skater free on an relatively small ice rink, but my friends enjoyed it. What would a Christmas-themed event be without a Christmas market where you can buy handcrafted things? That’s why a lot of kiosks sold different kind of items. The choice of food was really big, reaching from Seafood, to Pizza, to burgers, etc. Although my Cheeseburger and the garlic fries were delicious, it bothered me, that I had to pay $17 for the meal- it was really expensive! Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Santa Claus, but Misses Claus did read some stories to the kids.
We spent hours there and in the end, all three of us were freezing- we could not feel our toes anymore. So we decided to go to a Doughnut-shop a few minutes away from the Safeco Field, to warm up until our bus arrives. The shop was in the middle of nowhere and the area around looked like there was a Zombie apocalypse about to break out any minute, especially in the night, but thankfully I got back safe to my hostel and my friends arrived some minutes later in their homes.

I went to bed pretty late but that was no problem because on the next day I had more than enough time to eat breakfast, pack my remaining things and check out. Before I left to another sightseeing tour, I finally chatted with my roommate a little bit- she is a photographer and was really nice. Too bad, that we met on the last day…
Anyway, I stored my luggage in a room provided by the hostel and made my way to my first stop: the Olympic Sculpture Park.IMG_20181219_111731903_HDR It was about a 20 minute walk from Pike Place, and a few artistic sculptures were to be found there. A lot of people were jogging or walking the dog, and I just enjoyed the fresh air, the sea breeze because one can choose to walk besides the Puget Sound, and the amazing views to Downtown Seattle or Bainbridge Island. IMG_20181219_114908380_HDRI followed the path next to the water until I passed the Aquarium and the Waterfront. From there, I took the stairs up to Pike Place Market, where I bought a corn dog as a lunch snack, visited the Gum Wall one last time and went along the Pike Street for a long time because my next goal was: the Jimi Hendrix Statue. IMG_20181219_131145769_HDRThe small statue is located vis-à-vis of the Seattle Central College and in Capitol Hill, which hosts a lot of little shops, cafés, book- and guitar stores and events. On my way back, my final goal for this day was the famous Starbucks Reserve, where you can enjoy different types of coffees whilst admiring and learning something about the process of beans roasting. IMG_20181219_132635945_HDRA store also offers some Starbucks articles. I, for myself, took a seat at the bar. “That’s even the best place to experience it!”, as an employee assured me. And my expectations were more than fulfilled! The waiters and waitresses helped you ordering the right thing for you. But I have seen a picture of some Christmas offers on Facebook some days before, so I explained her the drink, of which I did not remember the name anymore and she knew immediately what to bring me. That was the best coffee- drink I ever had!! Sipping tiny bits, I tried to find out the ingredients, but it was really hard. It felt like a taste-explosion in my mouth. The drink, served in a Cocktail glass, smelled like a forest, tasted at first like some caramelized, creamy eggnog but once you swallowed it the typical Christmas spices, like Gingerbread and cinnamon, began to spread out, leaving you with the desire for another sip. A visit at the Starbucks Reserve is a MUST-DO!!

After that amazing experience, I went back to the shopping street. Since I had a lot of time to kill, I made sure that I was in every shop at least once, although I could not afford everything that I wanted. Before heading back to the hostel to grab my luggage and taking the train to the airport, I treated myself one more time with Galaxy Donuts- this time: a small size with Peanutbutter-Strawberry-Jelly-Donuts.
I am more than ready for a new adventure, a new city, although I know that the upcoming day might be a bit exhausting. Still, it will be worth it:
New York, here I come!

~Stay tuned.
